“Some 16 months after launching FKOF, two artists got in touch to ask if they could send me some music. The rest, if you know how we operate, is history. Starting with a guest mix and interview as part of the MIG x FKOF series in 2011, we’ve kept tabs on Soundproof as we’ve both grown. So far, our relationship has culminated in Everyday on FKOFUn/Known01 – a track that epitomised why we enjoy their music so much. Soundproof, with their signature sound, self-titled record label and appearances at some of the best venues in bass music are an important part of the genre’s story. As such, the duo make the perfect addition to our attempt to document the ever-fluid world of 140bpm bass music.
“If you know Soundproof’s sound, their FKOFd011 release will be a familiar and enjoyable experience. But if you’re unfamiliar with their output, this will be an encounter you may end up repeating with enthusiasm! The EP opens with Lemmings, a punchy yet playful tune that steamrollers about with brilliantly sharp percussion and a bouncing synth. Chainmail follows with a dark and threatening halfstep vibe that pays homage to time spent in front of the FWD>> subs. Bison strips the Soundproof sound back to its bare minimum, the embodiment of what’s required in a tune we’re guaranteed to sign. Arkun Stone is the fourth and final inclusion in the FKOFd011 EP, perhaps a lighter tune than the other three but one as comfortable as the rest on both system and mobile device.
“A single release away from the end of our first year in business, Soundproof’s FKOFd011 is a valuable addition to our back catalogue. It’s also the first EP in the digital label’s history that’s been submitted in its entirety and signed on the spot. Soundproof’s heritage is one we’re huge fans of and we hope you enjoy their release with us as much as we have putting it together.”
