about

We’ve been fortunate enough, over the last six years, to have experienced some truly amazing music from producers all over the world. And we like to test the tunes we get sent, we know what we like but it’s always good to get our community’s feedback too.

The FatKidOnFire Sessions - our on/off monthly mix series that’s been going on for the last two years - has been the testing ground for quite a few tunes we’ve ended up signing to FKOFd. Our next release, which sees us welcome two Japanese DJ/ producers to the FKOF fam, featured heavily in the FKOF Sessions last year…

“Dayzero and Karnage have been making quiet a name for themselves since announcing their talents to the global dubstep fanbase a few years back. Both together and separately, the Japanese musicians are responsible for some of the most exciting unreleased material we’ve received. So when we first heard what’s become FKOFd028 we knew we’d end up signing their beats - we just weren’t sure what we wanted (we wanted it all)…

“The EP features three original productions from Dayzero and a gargantuan collab with Karnage. All four tracks ably demonstrate what the producers are capable of. Release-opener ‘Allca’ is all chopped vocals and stuttering percussion on top of a wall of sub-driven power. ‘Violet’ follows up with more sonic warfare, with its rumbling low-end and skittish synths. Track three, ‘The Fifth Lab’, strips Dayzero’s music back to the basics and sprawls across nearly 7 and a half minutes of bassweight. The release closes with the collaborative ‘Coastline’ that debuts Karnage’s contribution. It’s a laid-back stepper that swings into consciousness and simply stays there. Evocative, atmospheric and much more - it’s our favourite tune on the EP.

“Dayzero and Karnage haven’t been around for long, but we’re pretty sure with material like this they’re here to stay. Get to know - and if you’re after more music from Dayzero check his debut 12” release with our friends at Encrypted Audio…”
